Last week, the ESJF completed its first fencing project of 2022 since the outbreak of war at the Melnytsya Podilska New Jewish Cemetery in the Ternopil region. This work took place under our continued commitment to the mission of protecting the Jewish cemeteries of Ukraine as part of Central and Eastern Europe where the ESJF is active under funding from the Auswärtiges Amt.

All the work done was in close cooperation with local people and municipalities, while recognising the sensitivities and the needs of the local population at this difficult time. Our deep thanks also to Mayor Volodymir Bondarchuck for the close collaboration with the town of Melnytsa Podilska and their kind offer to assist us in the maintenance of this site into the future. We stand in solidarity with them and all Ukrainians.

As of now, we have restricted our fencing operation to the western regions of the country but we look forward to a time when we, and most importantly, all Ukrainian people can return to peace and normality across the country. We hope this is the first of many projects of the year!
